Ecuadoran 50 Reales Galapogos Tortoise 5oz Round
 

I saw one of these on eBay last night. For those who don't know I have a pet giant tortoise and I would like very much to be able to add one of these to my collection. Unfortunately the premium on the eBay piece is just too insane for me, it's at $218 right now.

I was just wondering if anybody might have occasionally seen one of these things turn up or if I'm looking at a nearly impossible to find item? I'd be willing to pay up to $20 an ounce just to have it as an artistic piece and I'm pretty sure we'll see $20 silver next year, but $40+ an ounce is just way beyond what I'm willing to pay.

Along those lines I noticed at MGM Studios in Orlando they wanted $60 for a one ounce silver round that had Yoda, Darth Vader and some Disney iconography on it.

Collector type items are worth what someone is willing to pay. I think a lot of dealers (of type) including some who sell at gun shows and flea markets, have items that they don't care if they sell or not. They don't have much money tied up in the item(s), don't need the cash, and will have difficulty replacing what they have, so they're willing to "sit" on 'em waiting for somebody to come along who has the money and is willing to pay the exhorbant price.

I saw a dozen or so generic 1 oz. Ag rounds at a gun show yesterday. The dealer was asking $4.00 over spot = "Thank you; let me think about it"...but I didn't have to think very long.
